Churchyard Headstones & Memorials

A churchyard is regulated by the local Diocesan area of the Church of England. As a result, any memorial intended to be erected in a churchyard must adhere to the permitted rules set out by the local Diocesan. Below is a list of some of the rules that must be followed.

Inscriptions must be approved by the Vicar
Nicknames and certain words may be objected
Some churchyards won’t allow polished or red granites (we can provide advice on this)
White marble is advised for infant graves only
Sandstone, limestone, light and dark granites are permitted
Stones must be of a honed finish (not reflective)
